A Year of Service and Growth
There’s something humbling about trusting God’s timing, especially when life doesn’t unfold the way you envisioned. Competing in the Mrs. Idaho America pageant was one of those moments for me. I poured my heart into preparing, hoping to make it to the top 8. But when the results came in, I didn’t even place. Instead, I watched as my two best friends won the two titles.
At first, I felt the sting of disappointment. I’d worked so hard, and yet, it wasn’t my time. But as I stood there, cheering for my friends, I realized something profound: God’s plan is always bigger than my own. He was showing me that this wasn’t about me—it was about celebrating others and learning to serve with a joyful heart.

Focusing on What Matters Most
This year has been a whirlwind of change and challenges. Moving to a new home, juggling two mortgages, and managing our old house as an Airbnb has been overwhelming at times. On top of that, I’ve been working toward a major personal goal: finishing my book. It’s been a lot to handle, but through it all, I’ve felt God guiding me to focus on what truly matters.
In the midst of this chaos, I’ve finally discovered the word that encapsulates all of my goals for 2025: Service. It’s amazing how one word can bring so much clarity and purpose.
Living a Life of Service
Here’s how “service” has shown up in my life this year:
- Service to My Friends
Watching my two best friends win their titles was a reminder of the importance of lifting others up. As they prepare to compete at nationals, I’ve committed to supporting them in any way I can. Whether it’s helping them brainstorm ideas, cheering them on, or simply being there to listen, I want them to know they’re not alone on this journey. - Service to My Family
Amid all the busyness, I’ve made it a priority to show my family how much they’re loved. Whether it’s spending quality time together, helping my daughters with their creative projects, or simply being present, I want them to feel valued and supported. - Service to My Community
Finishing my book has become more than just a personal goal—it’s a way to serve my community. This book isn’t about me; it’s about helping others embrace authenticity and live with purpose. As I work toward my deadline, I’m reminded that every word I write is an opportunity to make a difference. - Service to HR Professionals
As an HR professional, I’ve seen firsthand how challenging this field can be. This year, I’ve dedicated myself to serving my peers by sharing insights, offering support, and tackling new problems together. It’s been incredibly rewarding to contribute to a profession that plays such a vital role in the lives of so many.
Trusting God’s Plan
Looking back, I can see how God’s timing has been at work in every aspect of my life. Not placing in the pageant wasn’t a failure—it was a lesson in humility, gratitude, and service. Moving homes and balancing mortgages has taught me resilience and resourcefulness. Writing my book has deepened my sense of purpose. And through it all, God has been shaping me into someone who serves with love and intention.
So, if you’re in a season where life feels chaotic or uncertain, I encourage you to trust God’s timing. He sees the bigger picture, even when we can’t. And often, the moments that feel like setbacks are actually opportunities to grow, serve, and become the person He’s calling you to be.
This year, I’m leaning into service with my whole heart. I’m serving my friends, my family, my community, and my profession—not because I have to, but because I want to. And in doing so, I’ve found a sense of peace and purpose that only comes from trusting in His plan.
