Our Feathered Friends:

Life with 8 Chickens!

Life has been a whirlwind of creativity, travel, and projects lately, but amidst the hustle and bustle, we decided to add a little feathered joy to our lives. A few weeks ago, we brought home eight adorable chickens, and let me tell you, they have been nothing short of a blessing. From the moment we named them—Nugget, Sandwich, Hei Hei, Marshmallow, Boomer, Little, Alvin, and Theodore—they became part of our family in the most unexpected and delightful way.

The Cutest New Additions

When we first got the chickens, we were struck by how tiny and fluffy they were. Watching them scurry around their coop and peck at the ground was an instant mood booster. Each one has its own personality, and naming them was such a fun family activity. Nugget and Sandwich are the mischievous duo, always sneaking off to explore. Hei Hei (yes, inspired by the chicken from Moana) is hilariously clumsy but endearing. Marshmallow is the calm one, Boomer is the boss, Little is the largest of the group, and Alvin and Theodore are inseparable brothers.

Backyard Therapy

One of my favorite parts of the day has become taking the chickens into the backyard. It’s amazing how something so simple has brought our family closer together. My four daughters, my husband, and I all gather in the yard, laughing and chatting as the chickens climb into our laps or dart around eating bugs. It’s become a moment of calm and connection, a chance to slow down and breathe after the fast pace of the last few months.

These little moments have become our therapy. There’s something incredibly grounding about watching the chickens scratch through the dirt, their soft clucks filling the air. It’s a reminder to embrace the present and find joy in the small things. Plus, the chickens seem to love the attention, which only makes the experience sweeter.

A Rewarding Journey

Raising chickens has been more rewarding than I could have imagined. Sure, there’s some work involved—cleaning the coop, making sure they’re fed and safe—but it’s all worth it. They’ve taught us patience and the value of nurturing something outside ourselves. And let’s be honest, there’s nothing quite like the laughter that comes from watching Hei Hei trip over her own feet or seeing Nugget try to boss everyone around.

As we settle into this new chapter with our feathered friends, I’m grateful for the unexpected joy they’ve brought into our lives. They’ve given us a reason to pause, to laugh, and to connect as a family in ways we hadn’t before. Who knew chickens could be such heartwarming little companions?

Looking Ahead

We’re excited to see what the future holds with our flock. Maybe we’ll get fresh eggs soon, or perhaps more hilarious antics to share. For now, we’re soaking in the simple pleasure of having them around. If you’ve ever considered adding chickens to your life, I can wholeheartedly say it’s worth it. They might just surprise you with how much joy they bring.

Here’s to Nugget, Sandwich, Hei Hei, Marshmallow, Boomer, Little, Alvin, and Theodore—the tiny, feathery reminders to slow down and savor the little things in life. 🐓❤️
