Lightbulb Moments from Week 3 with HRATV
There’s a moment in every journey where the truth finally catches up with us—sometimes in the most unexpected ways. For me, one of the most powerful breakthroughs in my 8-week course happens in week 3, and I was lucky enough to experience it live with HRATV.
We dove into a topic that’s both playful and profound: the unconscious “tells” our bodies reveal when we’re trying to be perfect. Think of it like poker—no matter how calm your mind tries to appear, your body often gives away the real story. For some, it’s a nervous laugh or tapping feet. For me? My voice goes up an octave, and I start clapping my hands like a cheerleader. It’s my body’s way of saying, “Maybe if I’m extra enthusiastic, everyone will like me!”—even if I’m feeling anything but confident inside.
Why Do We Have These “Tells”?
It’s simple, but not easy: these tells show up when we’re not being fully honest with ourselves or others. When we try to project perfection, our bodies react to the internal disconnect—just like a poker player whose body betrays a bluff. These little signs are not flaws; they’re invitations to notice where we’re out of alignment.
The Power of Recognition
The real magic happens when we recognize our own tells. In my course, after we uncover them in week 3, we spend the following weeks learning to reverse them—to help our mind and body snap back into alignment with who we truly are. Instead of reverting to the nervous, people-pleasing version of ourselves, we practice authenticity, even when it’s uncomfortable. That’s where the real growth begins.
HRATV: A Room Full of Lightbulb Moments
What I loved most about the HRATV session? Watching a room full of HR professionals light up with realization and laughter. There was a beautiful moment when the group connected the dots between burnout and the pressure to be the “perfect employee.” The insight: burnout often comes from employees feeling they have to keep up appearances instead of being themselves.
And because we broadcasted the session nationally, those lightbulb moments weren’t limited to the room. HR professionals from across the country tuned in and shared their own experiences—some even saying, “We loved this, but we need you here in person for the full effect!” There’s nothing quite like seeing these lessons ripple outward, touching hearts and changing perspectives far beyond the walls of one event.
